TWMA Ltd – Assessment of plant upgrade for improved efficiency & reduced carbon emissions

Client: TWMA

Sector: Energy

Services: Assessment of plant upgrade for improved efficiency & reduced carbon emissions

World leading specialist in drilling waste management, TWMA have been in operation for nearly two decades, providing innovative offshore and on shore drilling waste treatment solutions. Leading the way when it comes to environmental standards.

Their Peterhead operations process offshore oil drill cuttings waste back to valuable diesel, water and cleaned solids. Developing solutions for the safe and efficient transfer, store and processing of drilling waste, slops and other associated materials generated from drilling operations, TWMA looked to Carbon-Zero to provide comparison of GHG emissions assessment of their current Peterhead operations, versus their proposed plant upgrade, to support their project proposal.

The proposed upgrade would improve operational efficiency, reduced energy usage and a 60% reduction in carbon emissions.

Objectives

  • Carry out site inspection and collate energy spend data to summarise total energy spend
  • Calculate carbon emissions in line with UK government GHG protocol for company reporting
  • Review detailed plant upgrade plans and summarise changes in energy usage and GHG emissions
  • Summarise findings in a comprehensive report detailing carbon emissions for both

Results

  • Carbon-Zero engaged with TWMA and their management team to outline boundaries of assessment and scope of to establish all sources of energy spend
  • Completed a site survey and audit on premises, operations and accounting data plus proposed process upgrades to plant
  • Calculated current carbon emissions summarising Scopes 1,2 & 3 in line with GHG reporting protocol and calculated carbon emissions based on proposed plant changes
  • Identified overall emissions savings of 2893 tonne CO2e p.a., a 60% saving on current operations
  • Includes 44% saving in fuel requirements, 62% reduction in fuel emissions, 30% reduction in fuel transport, 54% reduction in electricity consumption and 75% saving in water usage

Value To Client

“Carbon Zero’s study clearly justified the value and efficiencies this project could achieve from both an environmental and cost perspective.”

Gareth Innes, Chief Engineering and Commercial Officer, TWMA
